By Akankshita Mukhopadhyay and Divya Grover (Reuters) - Sage Therapeutics Inc's shares surged more than 63 percent premarket on Thursday, on track to add about $2.5 billion to the company's market value, after its drug succeeded in reducing the symptoms of depression in a mid-stage trial. For Sage, it's the second success in as many months. The company's postpartum depression drug aced two key studies in November, paving the way for it to bring to market the first FDA-approved treatment for the disorder. Data reported on Thursday showed that the drug, SAGE-217, was statistically significant...

Shondaland’s stake in Seattle is expanding with a Grey’s Anatomy spin-off set at a nearby firehouse — and EW has the exclusive first look! Jokingly referred to as Blaze Anatomy, the still-unnamed offshoot focuses on first responders whose high-stakes rescues have more drama than Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. “Our hero characters aren’t just saving lives, they’re putting their own lives at risk,” says showrunner Stacy McKee. The 10-episode drama follows a team — including father figure Captain Pruitt Herrera (Miguel Sandoval), charismatic charmer Jack (Grey Damon), and leading lady Andy He...

An entrance to the Rivergreen gated community in Bowling Green, Ky. (Luke Sharrett/For The Washington Post) BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Rand Paul was on the verge of becoming a powerful senator and the nation’s leading libertarian. His neighbor was a successful doctor and Kennedy-style Democrat who favored nationalized medicine. They might have sparred over health care or taxes, but an acquaintance of both said they stood in their yards roughly a decade ago shouting at each other over the grass clippings Paul’s mower had shot on Rene Boucher’s property. “ ‘I ask him, I tell him and he won’t pay at...

From the adorable bird resting atop Allison Janney’s shoulder in I, Tonya to the sea-dwelling humanoid in The Shape of Water, beastly figures have played a key role in some of the best movies of 2017, and thanks to the new trailer for A24’s Lean on Pete, that trend looks to continue well into the new year. The directorial follow up to Andrew Haigh’s Oscar-nominated drama 45 Years, Lean on Pete follows a young boy, Charley (Charlie Plummer), who embarks on a soul-searching trek through the American countryside after suffering an unforeseeable tragedy. Broken by circumstance, Charley forms a ...

JFK is coming to Netflix’s acclaimed British royal family drama The Crown, but you can expect a rather different depiction of the 35th president than the laudatory portraits typically seen in American film and television. As played by Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under) in the show’s second season (premiering Friday), President John F. Kennedy is still a charming leader who can deliver an inspiring speech (a scene where Kennedy describes a divided nation and calls for healing leadership seems particularly on point). But he’s also shown behind the scenes as a controlling jealous connive...

I, Tonya has gotten a seal of approval from Tonya Harding herself, according to one of the film’s stars. The dark comedy, which is based on the disgraced figure skater’s life and stars Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad) in the titular role, details the bizarre scandal when Olympic figure skating hopeful Nancy Kerrigan was clubbed on the knee at a training session in 1994. It made headlines around the world — and all eyes soon turned to Harding, who was accused of plotting the attack with her ex-husband and her bodyguard. Harding was subsequently found guilty of hindering the prosecution a banned...

Game of Thrones final season won’t return until 2019 — that’s according to series star Sophie Turner. While HBO has yet to confirm the season 8 premiere year (which EW first revealed was the most likely option back in June), Turner let slip in a new Variety interview that “Game of Thrones comes out in 2019.” Her quote follows news that GoT — which is currently shooting its final six episodes — will continue filming until the summer of 2018 (which also suggested that the show wouldn’t be back until the following year given the amount of post-production work required for each season). The 201...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Tom Cotton says no one should be subjected to "trial by newspaper" on sexual harassment accusations like those against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore or President Donald Trump. The Arkansas Republican says in an Associated Press interview that such allegations should be decided on their merits. Multiple women have accused Moore of sexual misconduct from decades ago when they were teenagers and he was a prosecutor in his 30s. More than a dozen women accused Trump of sexual misconduct, and his voice was recorded by "Access Hollywood" boasting of touching women witho...

Even as President Trump and Republicans in Congress seek to cut federal taxes, the White House has quietly come up with a very different plan for infrastructure: It wants to reward states and localities willing to raise taxes or other revenue to pay for new projects. The dynamic is key to the Trump administration’s latest thinking on an infrastructure bill aimed at spurring a $1 trillion investment in the nation’s ailing roads, bridges, rail lines and airports. Originally touted by Trump as a first 100-days initiative — and one with the prospect for bipartisan support — it has stalled amid ...

Regulations And Politics Rain On Pharma M&A ParadeRegulations And Politics Rain On Pharma M&A Parade
By Dane Hamilton Regulatory and political uncertainty put a damper on blockbuster M&A deals in the pharma sector this year, but companies expect a steady stream of smaller, less risky deals to enhance their product portfolios. “Value is going to be our purpose, we’re agnostic about size,” says Doug Giordano, senior vice president of corporate development for Pfizer, speaking on the sidelines of the Piper Jaffray Healthcare Conference in New York last week. “If we see the right values, we’ll pursue those values.” Pfizer sought to buy AstraZeneca in 2014 and Allergan in 2015, both for well ov...

Eh no, allora dovrebbe piacere sempre e per sempre! Ma non è così.
