By Andrew M. Seaman (Reuters Health) - One suicide attempt in an
army unit may foreshadow attempts by other soldiers in the same unit,
suggests a new study from the U.S. military. "Clusters do occur, and if
there is a suicide attempt in an Army unit there is likely to be another
attempt in the unit," said lead author Dr. Robert Ursano, of the
Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda,
Maryland. Suicide attempts in the U.S. Army increased dramatically
during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and the risk might have been
influenced by events within a soldier's unit, Ursano...

ABU DHABI, July 27 (Reuters) - Etihad Airways, one of the Middle
East's three largest carriers, on Thursday reported a huge loss for 2016
as impairments on aircraft and exposures to equity partners weighed on
its bottomline. The Abu Dhabi-based carrier made a net loss of $1.87
billion for 2016 compared with a net profit of $103 million a year
earlier, a statement from Etihad said. It is the first time the airline
has reported a loss since the 14-year-old airline started making money
in 2011. The release of the financial results come amid a troubled
period for the state-owned airline which s...

(Reuters) - Eagle Pharmaceuticals Inc said on Wednesday the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration declined to approve its drug Ryanodex to
treat heat stroke and requested an additional clinical trial, sending
its shares down 20 percent. The drug, which is approved for the
treatment and prevention of malignant hyperthermia, is being tested to
treat exertional heat stroke (EHS), in conjunction with external cooling

By Gabriela Baczynska LUXEMBOURG (Reuters) - A deal between the
European Union and Canada to share airline passenger data must be
revised as parts of it violate privacy and data protection laws beyond
what could be justified for fighting terrorism, the EU's top court said.
The European Court of Justice said that while transfer, retention and
use of passenger data was allowed in general, the envisaged rules for
handling sensitive personal data "are not limited to what is strictly
necessary". The EU's 28 states and Canada negotiated the deal in 2014
but the European Parliament - where the col...

By Benoit Nyemba KANANGA, Congo (Reuters) - The head of Congo's
election commission said on Thursday that better security in the
conflict-ravaged Kasai region had enabled preparations for a delayed
election to replace President Joseph Kabila, but it still may not happen
before a year-end deadline. Kasai poses Congo's biggest security
challenge and is the scene of a growing humanitarian disaster in a
country where militia violence since Kabila refused to step down in
December has raised fears of a slip back into civil war. But the central
region appears to be settling down a little, with few...

Shout! Factory has announced that it is releasing 1978’s infamous
Beatles musical Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band on Blu-ray, Sept.
26. Directed by Michael Schultz (Car Wash), the film is stuffed with
both numbers originally performed by the Fab Four and stars, including
the Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Donald Pleasence,
and Steve Martin. But the movie was greeted by harsh reviews and, while
the film would acquire a cult following over the years, has become a
byword for ’70s-era Hollywood excess. “They dug themselves into a hole
because, first of all, you’re pick...

Since Arcade Fire debuted with Funeral, their 2004 masterpiece
about death and grieving, one aspect has defined their epic music above
all else: They’re not ones for subtlety. Like 2013’s overwrought
Reflektor, the band’s fifth LP tackles information overload in the
digital age — but the result is hit-and-miss. The concept lands
beautifully on “Everything Now,” a heartland-rock ode to consumption;
less so on “Infinite Content,” a 97-second ditty with the trite refrain
“Infinite content, we’re infinitely content.”Lyrical shakiness aside,
Everything Now is musically rousing, from the dubby “P...
